Our Tests and Results
Test Results
See below for information.
For results of any tests carried out in the surgery, please call the practice between 10am and 3pm.
This is outside of our peak phone times, which helps reduce waiting times and allows our reception team to deal with enquiries more efficiently. Please allow 5 working days before contacting the practice for blood test results. X-ray and scan results can take several weeks to be reported and returned to us.
Results can only be given to the patient unless express permission has been given for someone else to receive them. This may also apply to patients under the age of 16. Our reception team will ask you for specific details when you call to ensure results are given to the correct person and patient confidentiality is maintained.
Hospital Test Results
See below for information.
If you have had a test arranged by a hospital clinician, the result will usually be sent directly to them. They will normally contact you with the outcome, most often by letter, with a copy also sent to your GP to keep us updated. If you have not received the result of a hospital investigation, the quickest and most efficient way to follow this up is to contact the secretary of the consultant’s team directly.
If you need any help with this, please do not hesitate to contact the practice and we will be happy to assist.
Cervical Screening Results
See below for information.
Cervical screening (smear test) results are managed through the Scottish Cervical Call-Recall System (SCCRS). Results are issued directly to patients by post as soon as they are available. A copy of your result is also sent to your GP practice to ensure your medical record is kept up to date.
This process usually takes up to five weeks, so please do not be concerned if you have not received your letter within this time.
Please note, the practice does not post out cervical screening results.

Our Common Questions
Some of our most frequently asked questions:
How do I know if I should see a GP?
If your symptoms are worrying, not improving after a few days, or interfering with daily life, it’s a good idea to book an appointment. Trust your instincts—if something feels off, get it checked.
Can I treat my illness at home?
Many minor illnesses (like colds, mild sore throats, or small injuries) can be managed with rest, fluids, and over-the-counter medication. If symptoms get worse or last longer than expected, contact us.
How long should a cold or flu last?
Colds usually improve within 7–10 days. Flu can last up to 2 weeks. If symptoms are severe, not improving, or include breathing difficulty, seek medical advice.
Do I need antibiotics?
Antibiotics only work for bacterial infections, not viruses like colds or flu. A GP can assess whether they’re necessary.
Can I get advice without an appointment?
Yes – our reception team is here to help guide you. Please provide as much accurate information as you can so our admin team can direct you to the most appropriate service.
What should I do if I run out of medication?
Contact us or your pharmacy as soon as possible. In urgent cases, pharmacists can sometimes provide an emergency supply
