Practice Closure for Staff Training (PLT)

Our practice will be closed periodically for protected learning time to allow all staff to take part in essential training. If you require urgent medical attention during this time, please call the practice as usual. You will be redirected to a dedicated call handler who will triage you to the most appropriate clinician. For routine enquiries, such as blood results or prescription requests, please contact the practice when we reopen.

PLT Dates: 13.05.26 2-6pm, 2.9.26 2-6pm, 9.12.26 2-6pm.

Zero Tolerance Policy

We are committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for both patients and staff. Our team is here to help you, and we ask that all patients treat staff with courtesy and respect at all times. We operate a zero-tolerance approach to any form of abusive, aggressive, violent or discriminatory behaviour towards our staff or other patients. This includes verbal abuse, threats, intimidation, and physical aggression. Such behaviour may result in removal from the practice list and, where appropriate, involvement of external agencies. For safety reasons, we may not be able to proceed with routine examinations or appointments if a patient is under the influence of alcohol or drugs to the extent that it affects their ability to safely engage or provide informed consent. In these situations, the clinician may need to rearrange the appointment. However, where there is an urgent clinical need, an assessment will still take place.

"The team work hard to ensure patients receive the right care, at the right time, from the right person. We ask that all patients treat our staff with courtesy and respect, as they are here to help you"

Signposting

Local Services – Right Care, Right Time, Right Place

Signposting is undertaken by our Patient Care Advisors. When you call the surgery, you will be asked to give brief details what your call is regarding. This means that instead of automatically being given an appointment with a GP, you will be advised if there is a suitable alternative that may be a better option for you.

Urgent Appointments

If you feel your problem is urgent, please contact the practice as early as possible, as we offer a limited number of same-day appointments.

Learn More

Urgent appointments are for medical problems that need same-day assessment and cannot safely wait for a routine appointment.
Examples may include:

  • Severe or worsening pain
  • Suspected infection that is rapidly getting worse
  • Sudden deterioration of an existing medical condition
  • Breathing difficulties that are new or worsening
  • Chest pain or unexplained tightness (seek emergency help if severe)

This list is not exhaustive. If you are unsure, please contact the practice and our Care Advisors will direct you to the most appropriate service.
If all urgent appointments have been booked, you may be directed to NHS 111, a local urgent treatment centre, or pharmacy services depending on your symptoms.

In a medical emergency, such as severe chest pain, suspected stroke, severe breathing difficulty, or loss of consciousness, please call 999 immediately.

Booking Appointments

Appointments can be booked by telephone or in person at reception.

Learn More

Routine appointments can be booked up to one week in advance. If a clinician requests a follow-up appointment, we may be able to book this further in advance to ensure continuity of care.

Our Care Advisors may ask for brief details about your symptoms or needs to help direct you to the most appropriate appointment and clinician.

If you are unable to attend your appointment, please contact the practice as soon as possible so it can be offered to another patient.
Every missed appointment reduces availability for others. Please help us use NHS appointments effectively by cancelling in advance if you are no longer able to attend.

Home Visits

Home visits are available for housebound patients and should be requested before 10:00am where possible.

Learn More

Home visits are available for patients who are genuinely housebound and unable to attend the surgery due to their medical condition.

Where possible, requests for home visits should be made before 10:00am to allow the clinical team to plan visits effectively.

A clinician may contact you before arranging a visit to assess your needs. In some cases, it may be more appropriate for you to be seen at the surgery, where more appropriate facilities are available.
Home visits can only be provided within the practice boundary and catchment area. If the patient is not at their registered home address, please inform the receptionist at the time of request.

To help ensure the safety of both patients and staff, please let us know if there are any potential hazards at the property, including animals, restricted access, unsafe pathways, or any other relevant risks.

Please ensure that any animals are securely kept away from the clinician during the visit. Home visits are intended for patients whose medical condition prevents them from attending the surgery. Lack of transport is not usually a reason for a home visit.

Appointment Etiquette

Please arrive on time for your appointment and inform us if you are running late. If you are unable to attend, let us know as soon as possible so your appointment can be offered to another patient. Repeated missed appointments may result in a review of your registration with the practice.

Consultation Types

We offer both face-to-face consultations and telephone appointments. Our Care Advisors will help direct you to the most appropriate appointment type based on your individual needs.

Learn More

When you contact the practice, our Care Advisors will ask for brief information about your symptoms or needs. This helps us direct you to the most appropriate type of appointment and clinician.

Some conditions can be safely managed by telephone, particularly follow-up care, test results, and general medical advice. Other conditions may require a face-to-face appointment where a physical examination or procedure is needed.

In some cases, a clinician may begin with a telephone consultation and arrange a face-to-face appointment if required. In order to provide safe and appropriate care, patients may be asked to attend the surgery if a physical assessment is needed before treatment or prescribing.

Extended Hours

We also provide extended hours for patients who are unable to attend during normal opening times. These are available every Tuesday morning from 7:15am–8:15am, as well as on selected weekdays between 5:30pm–6:30pm. Please contact the practice for up-to-date availability.

Learn More

Extended hours telephone appointments are available for patients who are unable to speak with a clinician during standard opening times due to work, education, or caring responsibilities.

These appointments may also be suitable for carers or others whose daytime commitments make it difficult to have a telephone consultation during usual hours.
Extended hours telephone clinics are part of our routine service and may be provided by different members of the clinical team, depending on availability.

Please note that extended hours sessions may vary depending on staffing and clinical demand and may not run every week.

These telephone appointments are generally suitable for routine medical issues, follow-up care, test results, and ongoing health management. If your condition requires urgent assessment, you may be directed to more appropriate same-day services.
If you are unsure whether an extended hours telephone appointment is appropriate, our Care Advisors will be happy to help you choose the most suitable option.

Appointment Etiquette

Please arrive on time for your appointment and inform us if you are running late. If you are unable to attend, let us know as soon as possible so your appointment can be offered to another patient. Repeated missed appointments may result in a review of your registration with the practice.

Learn More

Our appointment system is designed to ensure fair and efficient access to care for all patients. When patients attend on time and cancel appointments they no longer need, it helps reduce waiting times and improves availability for others.

We understand that circumstances can change unexpectedly. However, repeated non-attendance without cancellation may lead to a review of your registration with the practice. Before any such decision is made, we will always make reasonable efforts to contact the patient and offer support or discuss any underlying issues that may be affecting attendance.

If you are experiencing difficulties attending appointments, please speak to a member of our team so we can help identify appropriate support or alternative arrangements.

Our Common Questions

Some of our most frequently asked questions:

How do I know if I should see a GP?

If your symptoms are worrying, not improving after a few days, or interfering with daily life, it’s a good idea to book an appointment. Trust your instincts—if something feels off, get it checked.

Can I treat my illness at home?

Many minor illnesses (like colds, mild sore throats, or small injuries) can be managed with rest, fluids, and over-the-counter medication. If symptoms get worse or last longer than expected, contact us.

How long should a cold or flu last?

Colds usually improve within 7–10 days. Flu can last up to 2 weeks. If symptoms are severe, not improving, or include breathing difficulty, seek medical advice.

Do I need antibiotics?

Antibiotics only work for bacterial infections, not viruses like colds or flu. A GP can assess whether they’re necessary.

Can I get advice without an appointment?

Yes – our reception team is here to help guide you. Please provide as much accurate information as you can so our admin team can direct you to the most appropriate service.

What should I do if I run out of medication?

Contact us or your pharmacy as soon as possible. In urgent cases, pharmacists can sometimes provide an emergency supply

" Our practice is proud to support the next generation of doctors. We host 3rd year medical students and Foundation Year 2 (FY2) trainee GPs, who are closely supervised by our qualified clinicians."
